Five Characters

The “Brothers also Bound,” are linked

arm in arm. They walk in jerked motions

across the stage, make peremtory gestures

to introduce the act. They follow by breaking

ranks; scattering apart, and fallling

about the stage, with clear intent

to menace the audience with lurid faces,

hiss the five fates, now waiting

on every other player in the dream.

They speak horrified

whispers, delivered out of sequence:

One dies.

One expects to die.

One is ready to die.

One lives, and lives, and lives.

One disappears.

The words of the Brothers falter then

they follow their previous performance

by miming unrequited self-loathing,

wrapped in their Dollorama prices.
