the Impensive

GREAT POETRY SHOULD BE READ TOGETHER

the Seminar

This is precisely why Robert chose to offer an intimate, online seminar "the Impensive."  Even though the word eludes a strong sense of definition, at the same time it gesures toward the energy of inquiry and curiousity; moments of self doubt; intense motivation that is a form of exhasution, at the same time.

The aim behind the Impensive is to offer an intimate, low-stakes online seminar that respects how much of modern life exists in a state between commitments an dives to achieve personal goals; that writing and a love of words seldom have the opportunity to be both.

To begin with, the word "impensive" emerged, uninvited, on a fresh page of paper where a new poem was struggling to be born. At the time there was no way for the poet to know how persistent the word would become, or that it would stick around for so long. It has proved itself useful to describe quintessentially human moments and states of being when a person feels situated between seemingly contradictory extremes, but still exist in a form of uneasy harmony. States of life that have a quality of restlessness but also peace; perhaps a tranquil mind that can't quit racing, at the same time.

line—"impensive" has come to mean more to a wider variety of people than the writer who discovered it could have imagined.
